My Dad came to the US to complete his specialization after medical school. My Mom’s family came to the US at the turn of the century from Greece. My mom’s great-grandfather, who came to this country alone (at age 16), worked as a fruit vendor in Chicago.

Why did your family come to the United States? My family came here for better opportunities.

What would the U.S. be missing out on if you or your people were banned? New York would be drastically different without the Italian people. It’s difficult to imagine the entertainment industry and culture without the contributions of the Italians and Greeks. If you want to take it even further than that, consider the contributions these cultures made on modern politics, the arts, and philosophy. Finally, if my family were to be banned from this country, our friends and neighbors would miss an important part of their community.
