Our story starts in Sudan, Africa. Sirr Al-Khatim Al-Khalifa Al-Hassan is my father’s uncle. In the 70s, Sirr was the Minister of Education and later became the transition-Prime Minister of Sudan for the first democratically elected government in the countries history. Given Sirr’s passion for education, he was thrilled to write a recommendation for his nephew, my father, to study in the United States. My father decided to attend the University of San Francisco to pursue his Masters degree in Economics. A few years later my father brought my mother over from Sudan to the US. And the rest is history…

Why did your family come to the United States? My father’s pursuit of higher education led him to immigrate to the United States.

What would the U.S. be missing out on if you or your people were banned? On average, the United States would be a shorter country without us.
