My parents are from Carola in southern India. They moved around quite a bit because my dad was in the Air Force. My brother and I were born in New Delhi. We moved to the U.S. in 2003. My mom has sisters here in Michigan who sponsored her to come here so we could be together.

Why did your family come to the United States? My family came to the United States for better opportunities.

What would the U.S. be missing out on if you or your people were banned? The biggest advancements Indians have made are in science and math. If you go to any hospital, very often you’ll see a lot of Indians as doctors and nurses. It’s something we were driven to do.
