I do not know exactly how some of my family came to the United States; a few relatives were living here before there was a United States. Some of my great-grandparents came on ships from Europe. One worked for years to save enough to bring her and her children to live with their father already in the United States. Bad weather and dysentery took the lives of all her children and forced the ship back to Europe. It was years before she could afford to try again--this time successfully--and start a new family in America.

Why did your family come to the United States? My family came to the United States to improve their quality of life and the lives of their relatives who stayed home.

What would the U.S. be missing out on if you or your people were banned? A bilingual teacher helping the newest Americans discover and learn. Dozens of travelers in pursuit of new friends, spicy foods, and surfable beaches. A few hundred paintings on the walls of my studio and stuffed into my parent’s attic.
